Performance and Discussion
As part of Tragoedia's educational programming, the cast of Bat Boy performed a selection of musical numbers for a panel of Bat Boy alumni from 4th Wall Theater in NJ, NYU Tisch and the original Off-Broadway production. The workshop, graciously hosted by NYU - Steinhardt's Program in Educational Theatre, ran for two hours and included numerous panel discussions about the piece. Following each musical selection, the young adult cast of Bat Boy received feedback from the panel members. Drawing on their own experiences with the show, our guests relayed detailed insight into the motivations and eccentricities of the shows characters. Larry O Keefe, the original composer and lyricist of Bat Boy, reflected on both the Off-Broadway and London productions of his musical. By sharing his original vision and insight, Larry helped inspire our young cast to dig deep into the story of Bat Boy, now a musical cult classic. Special thanks to Dr. Nancy Smithner and Haley Treco.
