Coney Island

The cast of Side Show, as part of Tragoedia's educational initiative, took a trip to the Coney Island Sideshow in Brooklyn, NY. The last standing 10-in-1 sideshow in the nation, Coney Island's circus sideshow thrilled and amazed for only $6 per person. True to tradition, the sideshow was very accessible, intriguing and mysterious. Hawkers (pictured here) remained outside the performance space, ushering patrons into the show by offering discounted admission fees. Colorful banners littered the walls of the stage, and various contraptions and devices were visible. Each performer was adept at speaking to the audience, often making crude jokes and daring the crowd to stay and watch the next, more incredible act. Visiting the Coney Island Sideshow was a fantastic opportunity for the cast of our production, especially amidst ongoing development controversy that could shut the amusement park down in the near future.
